Custom socks for fundraising

A pair of socks in your own colours, sold to raise money for something. What the run costs you, what you have to decide, and how far ahead to start.

Fundraising products fail for one of two reasons. Either nobody wants the thing, or the margin disappears into the cost of making it. A custom sock answers both: people wear socks, and the cost per pair is known before you commit.

Societal Socks knits fundraising runs for PTAs, school funds, charities and clubs raising money for something specific. One design per run, one adult size, and no shoe sizes to collect from anybody.

The numbers for a fundraising run

Societal Socks has a minimum order of 100 pairs per design, which is 100 buyers at one pair each, or 50 at two.

Societal Socks prices custom socks at £4 a pair for 100 to 500 pairs.

The lead time is 7-8 weeks, from the day your invoice is paid to the day the socks arrive.

We send mock-ups within 24 hours of getting your colours and your artwork.

The design work is included in the order: there is no setup fee and no artwork charge.

Every pair is knitted in Europe.

How a fundraising run is costed

There are three numbers and only one of them is ours.

The first is what the socks cost you, which is £4 a pair for 100 to 500 pairs. The design work sits inside that: there is no setup fee and no artwork charge, so there is no separate line to find money for before you have sold anything.

The second is what you sell them for, which is entirely your decision and depends on who is buying. The third is the difference, per pair, which is what the cause keeps.

Ask us to confirm your order in writing before you set your resale price.

100 pairs, in fundraising terms

The minimum is 100 pairs per design. That is 100 buyers at one pair each, or 50 buyers at two, so it is worth holding against your likely buyers before you design anything.

It also caps your exposure, which is the part people miss. You are committing to one run at a known cost per pair, not to an open-ended print bill.

If you want two designs, that is two runs of 100, not one run of 200 split between them.

Working backwards from the event

You sign off the design, we invoice you, and sock production starts once that invoice is paid. From there it is 7-8 weeks to delivery. Count back 7 to 8 weeks from the day the socks have to be in the hall, then count back further for however long your committee needs to agree a design, find the artwork and get the invoice paid.

The design stage itself is fast. Mock-ups come back within 24 hours of us getting your colours and your artwork, and revisions are unlimited and included. The slow part is the knitting, and that part does not compress.

What you supply

Your colours, your crest or logo, a decision on the sock height, and a number. A photograph of a tie, a scarf or a spare shirt is often more use than a logo file, because it carries the colours as they really are.

If you have no artwork at all, we can design something from scratch with your guidance. The design work is included either way. What the crest goes through on the way to a sock is in how a crest goes on a sock.

Which sock

Crew is our most popular sock and it is the right answer for a fundraising run: tried, tested, and the height people actually wear, which is what makes them buy one. Other heights and constructions are available: a longer sock, a sports build, a ski sock. Tell us what the sock is for and we will tell you which to pick. More of the detail is on our FAQs page.

Making it look like a thing worth buying

A custom label with your own name or initialism on it is available on any run. It is a decision to make before you brief us.

Where our part ends

We knit the socks and deliver them to you. The selling, the payments, the resale price and anything a buyer wants to return afterwards stay with you.

The numbers

£4 a pair for 100 to 500 pairs, 100 pairs per design, 7-8 weeks, mock-ups within 24 hours, design included, knitted in Europe. All of it is set out with the reasoning on pricing, minimum order and lead time, and the process end to end is on how it works.

If the run is for a school rather than for a cause, custom socks for schools covers house colours and crests. If it is a club raising money for a tour, see custom socks for clubs.

How much do the socks cost us?

Societal Socks prices custom socks at £4 a pair for 100 to 500 pairs. The design work is included in the order: there is no setup fee and no artwork charge, so there is no cost to cover before you have sold anything.

What should we sell them for?

That is your decision. Get a quote from us first so you know your cost per pair, then set a resale price that leaves the margin your cause needs.

How far ahead do we need to start?

The lead time is 7-8 weeks, from the day your invoice is paid to the day the socks arrive. Count back 7 to 8 weeks from your event and then add the time your committee needs to agree a design and get the invoice paid.

Send us your colours

Send your colours, your logo and a rough idea of numbers, and we will come back with a mock-up and a price.
