The Six Steps
1. Send us your colours and your artwork
Email enquiries@societalsocks.com with your colours, your crest or logo, and a rough idea of numbers. A photograph of a tie, a scarf or a spare sports shirt is super helpful because it carries the colours as your organisation uses them. If you have no artwork at all, say so and we will design something from scratch with your guidance.
2. A mock-up comes back within 24 hours.
Your crest gets redrawn on a stitch grid, not shrunk, and then mocked up on the body of a sock with your colours matched as closely as we can get them. That comes back to you within 24 hours.
3. Revisions, as many as it takes.
We handle all the design work from there with unlimited revisions. There is no setup fee and no artwork charge, so the revisions cost you nothing and there is no reason to accept a design you are not happy with.
4. You sign off the design.
Once you are happy with the design we invoice you, and sock production starts the moment that invoice is paid. Everything before that runs at your speed; everything after it runs at ours.
5. Knitting, in Europe.
Every pair is knitted in Europe. The design is knitted into the fabric rather than printed on top of it, which is why it does not crack, peel or wash off.
6. Delivery.
The lead time is 7-8 weeks.
Knitted, not printed
This is the decision that shapes everything else. A printed sock takes any artwork you like and puts it on the surface, where it sits until it cracks. A knitted sock builds the design out of the stitches themselves, which means it cannot come off and it cannot fade differently from the sock around it.
The stitch grid has rules. Bold enclosed shapes survive; fine detail does not. We redraw a crest rather than shrink it. Which parts of a mark survive is set out under design and artwork.
The redraw cuts detail from some parts and emphasises others. A mark with a lot of detail in the original is often more identifiable once redrawn small than a simple one is. The whole process is in how a crest goes on a sock.
Crew first
Crew is our most popular sock, tried and tested, and it is the height most adults in the UK wear most days. It gives you a panel on the calf for a crest, room for stripes, and a cuff, heel and toe you can colour separately. Other heights and constructions are available: longer socks for match kit, a sports build, a ski sock. Tell us what the sock is for and we will tell you which to pick.
Why one size?
We knit one adult size and it fits UK foot sizes 5 to 13, which covers roughly 95% of adult feet in the UK. You never collect a shoe size from anybody, ever. Nothing to collect, nothing to guess at, no size to get wrong. Try that with a shirt.
